Rapid weight loss pills can make heart and lung problems
Reports have been published in British fashion magazine Grazia that the Hollywood actress Angelina Jolie is addicted to diet pills. Sources on her latest film Salt have told the best-selling weekly glossy that that the star, widely feted as one of the most beautiful women in the world, takes the drugs to boost her energy.
The source said, “She eats as little as she possibly can without keeling over. There is talk that Angelina is taking something to boost her energy, such as diet pills. It was certainly talked about amongst the cast and crew. Nobody saw one morsel of food pass her lips for the entire day, and that’s a pretty regular occurrence when we are shooting.”
It has not been confirmed which diet pills the star takes, but whichever ones she uses, they are likely to be causing serious damage to her health. The two diet pills which can legally be prescribed in the UK, Xenical and Reductil, are both only suitable for people who are seriously overweight or obese, which Angelina certainly it not.
No doctor would prescribe medications like Reductil or Xenical to her, so it is likely she would have obtained them on the black market. Illegal diet pills are notorious for containing substances other than the active ingredients sibutramine or orlistat. Previous hauls of counterfeit versions of the pills have been shown to be cut with talcum powder and amphetemines.
It is also possible she is taking a drug like phentermine or tenuate dospan, both of which are popular on the black market and are frequently manufactured in south-east Asia for import to the West. They have been associated with heart and lung problems when used to promote rapid weight loss, though they were popular 10 years ago. There are also herbal aids to weight loss which are available over the counter or over the internet, some which claim to be natural but contain orlistat or sibutramine.
Gossip columns have been watching Angelina Jolie’s rapid weight loss and shrinking frame for a while now with concern and rumours have been spreading she is suffering from an eating problem, possibly exacerbated by problems in her marriage to Brad Pitt. Recently she is believed to have collapsed after her weight fell to 104 lbs.
The Hollywood source told Grazia that diet pill abuse was common in the pressurised film industry. “A lot of Hollywood actors love diet pills because they give you a huge energy boost whole suppressing your appetite, so you could understand if she was taking them.”
