The majority of people believe that meditation makes a real and significant difference in their circumstances. Prayer also makes a difference in our thoughts. As we pray, we are opening ourselves up to the possibility that our circumstances could change. They often do as a result of prayer. Prayer at the onset of an anxiety attack could actually stop the panic attack from progressing. One of the main reasons for this is that panic attacks are built on a foundation of beliefs that our fears and worries will come true. Prayer challenges those thinking by calling on a Higher Power to intervene.
Try this simple prayer next time you feel like you are about experience a panic attack:
“God, I feel afraid of what I am facing. I need Your help. I am coming to You because You are big enough to help me. You are too wise to make any mistakes and too loving to be unkind so I am trusting You to help me through the next 5 minutes. Thank you. Amen.”
